6 Event 'Must Haves' for 2018

At No.1, we love all things events. From designing an event concept through to execution on the day, it is the combination of so many elements (function venue, catering, event styling - to name a few) that make an event truly memorable. On this week’s blog, our team of event gurus review some of our favourite event trends of the moment.

Balloons

Balloons have made a comeback, in a big way. Corporate and private event planners alike have gone mad for balloons and we can see why! Balloons add colour, fun and excitement to events and provide an alternative to the more traditional floral decorations. Balloons have become an art form with wedding and event planners choosing to incorporate oversized balloons, balloon installations and arches as jaw dropping feature pieces for their events.

Sustainability Focus

Corporate event planners are more mindful of sustainability in 2018 and venues and suppliers need to make provision for this ‘must have’ event trend. Events make up a critical part of many businesses marketing mix and therefor the events that businesses run must reflect their values and branding. From environmentally friendly packaging through to sourcing local, seasonal produce for menus, corporate event planners will continue to put emphasis on sustainability this year and beyond.

Selfie Station

The selfie trend has not slowed down (thanks Kim Kardashian!) and we see more and more events with dedicated ‘selfie stations’. While the traditional photobooth is still a hot ticket item for events (and probably always will be as they are just so much fun), event planners are creating their own ‘selfie stations’ which may be as simple as a backdrop / feature wall or with the inclusion of fancy dress, silly masks and funny hats to wear. Good time guaranteed.

Vegan Menus

Veganism and plant based diets continue to trend in Melbourne restaurants and this trend has definitely carried over through to event venues. Corporate event managers are looking for vegan menu options and conference menus must have a healthy feel. More and more, corporate event planners and wanted to incorporate menu items that are clean and plant based that will guarantee a natural energy boost for their delegates.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a buzz word that has picked up momentum recently and corporate event planners enjoy including a mindfulness component into their conferences and events. Yoga and meditation are popular choices for conferences and meetings these days and anything outdoors that encourages your delegates to unwind, relax and recharge will be a great addition for your next corporate event.

Fake Flowers

Fake flowers have come a very long way! With many Melbourne wedding and event suppliers now specialising in the most gorgeous artificial flowers, wedding and event planners are spoilt for choice. The beauty of artificial flowers is that they are cost effective, obviously reusable (which is great for multi day events) and environmentally friendly. Plus, they are so much like real blooms, not even the most discerning guest would know they are artificial!
